Though inspired by, and positioned directly against, the Corvette, Ford billed the Thunderbird as a personal luxury car, putting greater emphasis on the car's comfort and convenience. From its introduction in 1955 to its most recent departure in 2005, Ford has produced over 4.4 million Thunderbirds.
